ASSUMPTION: All too often, the topic of business continuity planning tends to be regarded as only a defensive strategy needed to respond to disasters and other disruptive events relevant to the normal operations of an organization.

FACT:  Organizations with effective continuity management methodologies, culture and full system integration maintain: (a) competitive advantage, (b) key business functions, and (c) systems of integrity.

How does your organization view its relationship towards maintaining an effective business continuity management position?

Hopefully, you answer would indicate that there is an active program of business continuity or at least, disaster preparedness and/or recovery either going on now or planned to start in your organization in the very near future.

To assist that “continuity of operations” mentality within your organization, and to further support our nation’s National Preparedness Month efforts, our staff would like to point out that FEMA’s National Continuity Programs (NCP) Directorate has been and will continue to offer free monthly continuity of operations related webinars.  The webinars are specifically designed for those who plan, train, and manage continuity programs such as: (a) Private sector individuals involved in Homeland Security and Business Continuity or PS-Prep programs, (b) State, local, tribal and territorial emergency managers, (c) PS-Prep strategy planning teams, (d) Faith based, volunteer and neighborhood partnerships in disaster preparedness and recovery programs, and (e) all other preparedness team coordinators.

As FEMA states, “…Webinars occur the first Wednesday of every month at approximately 2pm EST.  Each 45 minute webinar includes a 10 minute Question and Answer session. Take this opportunity to meet with continuity experts across the emergency management family and share best practices on how government, organizations, and communities can prepare for and recover from a disaster.”

The “Continuity of Operations” webinar series started in March 17th, 2011 and will end May 2nd, 2012.
