The Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) along with the Illinois Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission recently announced the availability of a series of videos, based on disaster preparedness, recovery and emergency management plans prepared by the Illinois Terrorism Task Force to assist individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing impaired.

The series of videos are titled “Emergency Preparedness: Together We Prepare.”

The multi-segment production uses American Sign Language and covers topics such as how to make a household emergency plan, preparing a supply kit, planning evacuations or preparing a shelter and preparations for people with disabilities.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission Director John Miller moderates the videos in sign language. He says, “… they are not state-specific so Illinois will encourage other states to use them”.

If applicable, please pass this information along to those deaf or hard of hearing impaired individuals in your family, your community and where you work.
